Hot take: We believe that customers (Equip. Fleet Managers) are in a reactionary position. Their fleet goes down, then what? Preventive Maintenance is important!!! Proper maintenance and scheduling downtime is very important. You understand it more when you’re on a flight waiting for take off and see a technician working on switches in the co*ckpit.

Recently I spoke to a very effective dispatcher - here's what he does on a daily basis to keep the shop moving:Being Proactive:Reviews appointments the day before to verify parts and recall availabilityDispatches parts and ticket at once - saves the tech a trip to the counterAnticipates which bays are open in the morning to prioritize waitersDouble checks open recalls and warranty coverage before dispatchingAnticipates what parts are needed for common diag requestsPulls up Tech Bulletins for common issues Continual involvement:Walks the shop all day to ensure work is getting doneActs as a liaison between the Techs and the AdvisorsKnows when technicians plan on finishing jobsHolds advisors accountable on good Write-UpsWill road test vehicles to keep technicians workingThis guys just gets it.
