The concept of co-living is gaining traction in Asian cities due to rising property prices and a desire for community. In Singapore, one of the region's most expensive property markets, co-living offers a more affordable housing option. While there are nearly 10,000 co-living rooms in the city-state, the concept remains relatively new. Some view co-living as a fad, but developers and housing experts believe it is here to stay, according to Eugene Lim, CEO and founder of co-living company The Assembly Place. The Singapore government has also progressively allocated more state-owned buildings for co-living spaces.

Giving up buying a house was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. But I discovered it would save me about $1.5 million over 30 years!I’ve previously written about how our parents unwittingly pass down outdated advice on career choices and investing to their children.Today I want to tackle an investing myth very close to home (heh).Renting is often seen as the temporary, inferior alternative when you cannot afford to buy. This is particularly true in many Asian cultures, where owning property is not only a financial goal but also a symbol of prestige and security. To answer this question, I built a rent or buy calculator using AI, and the answers really shocked me.I've also made it free for you to use (link to blog in the comments) 👇I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether buying or renting makes more sense for you!

Many co-living spaces offer just a room for rental, while others offer a bed and table. This allows individuals to rent a room for about S$1,000 in a central location. The Singapore government has recognised this shift in lifestyles and has progressively allocated more state-owned buildings such as heritage shophouses to be turned into co-living spaces.Sounds just like our forefathers in Chinatown when they first came to SG 😅 - a group of tenants living together and sharing communal facilities like toilets. It is obviously not a long term solution and one that is driven by rental cost in SG. I would think it is a interim solution until one saves enough to rent own unit. #homes #housing #singapore #rogerng #lbfalumni https://lnkd.in/gx6fBCQV

This has become a trend in Kuala Lumpur and other few big cities in Malaysia as well. It's sad to see that a young family (with or without children) can't afford the whole apartment/flat/house for themselves.

Govts globally are insensitive to the basic rights of all living beings. First we drove the other living beings out of their natural habitat and in our greed we keep destroying the animals and reptiles habitats at a more rapid rate.Next Govts and big industrialists see only Vit M and therefore they can't see that real estate belongs to all. That for housing and business purpose of one buys then one must do for one's own use only and not for investment. This must be a fundamental rule. This actual user rule will ensure housing and business needs are fulfilled without much stress and cost inflation. For those who do want to invest in real estate for rental purpose, there is REITS and special complexes can be designated for this purpose. This would create a healthy balance.
