Great small museum of local history, inexpensive and free for all kids. It's a series of galleries - one on the defunt Mineral Palace, one on the shifting borderlands between the US & Mexico (I hadn't realized it reached this far up), and another one about the Steel industry and the historic strike of the 80-90's. A Tipi is set up at the end of the hall and there are plaques about buffalo hunting and one about City Park, which I found interesting since I was there the day before. But almost worth the price of admission is the community gallery featuring art by Gregg Deal (which you might be able to visit for free - and you should.)During the summer, an outside trading post is open and there are lots of activities for kids, like a dress-up area & crafts. It took me about an hour to do a very thorough read-everything tour. Across the plaza is a shelter with a real archeological dig for the history of the town.

Small museum about the history of El Pueblo. Nice to visit, we walked through it under 1 hour and read almost everything. Some nice things for kids to do, but could be more interactive. It was a bit boring for my school kid, 10. Staff was very sweet. There is also a little museum shop with some regional craft works and a small art gallery. We liked the time.

Really disappointed with my experience. I wanted to rent out one of their creative spaces(open room) for my baby shower. I submitted the online form, didn’t hear anything so 2 days later I called. They told me they thought they had responded, asked about the date I wanted and said they would be in touch with me. A few days went by and still nothing so I called again, this time they told me they had the date available they just didn’t know if they would have a staff member available to unlock the door that day and needed time to figure it out. Fair enough. After another week goes by and I haven’t heard anything I call again, still being told the same thing. At this point I’m a month away from the date that I was looking to do the baby shower and had been in contact with the facility for 2 weeks. Another day goes by and I call again asking to speak with the director or manager, I was told they were in a meeting but my message would be delivered to them. Here I am 2 days later and still have not received a call from anyone. Absolutely ridiculous, and a waste of my time.

Reviews

The El Pueblo History Museum offers a mix of experiences according to visitors. While some found the staff unresponsive and disappointing in terms of event planning, others praised the quality exhibits, modern facility, and interesting local history showcased at the museum. Highlights include free parking nearby, interactive activities for kids, a variety of galleries covering different historical aspects like the Mineral Palace and Steel industry strike, as well as art exhibitions by Gregg Deal. The outdoor trading post during summer with children's activities adds to the charm of this small but informative museum.

My wife and I visited this very nice history museum and we were quite impressed with the quality of the exhibits and the modern facility. This tells an important story of the local history. I recommend you visit when you have an hour or two. Great free parking in a parking garage across the street.

Not worth the $14 entrance fee for two. The trading post is closed after 1 PM, which wasn't mentioned, and the rest of the exhibits are mostly photos and signs. Very few artifacts. The staff is nice, though.
