Is mesh drywall tape any good? ›

Mesh tape is excellent for repairing damaged drywall. Because it is self-adhesive, it can be installed quickly and easily without the need to mud the joints first. Combined with a setting compound, it creates a strong bond, quickly.

Overlapping fine mesh tape is one sure way that a crack will not come back on you! We use the FibaFuse brand of fine mesh! Always apply hot mud behind it and then wipe in before coating.

If you use mesh tape, setting compound (“Quick Set”) is the best drywall mud – actually, the only mud – to use. If you use paper tape and need lots of time to work, or you anticipate needing to do plenty of sanding (like beginners), pre-mixed mud is your best drywall mud.
