How to Create a Cute Dinosaur-Themed First Birthday Party
Entry
Before we even get to the party area, I set the prehistoric scene with a giant RAWR yard sign. There is no mistaking that this is the party house with this spiky, toothy, clawed and googly-eyed sign out front. Get the step-by-step instructions for how to create it yourself HERE.
Balloon Backdrop
Once inside the house, I used tons of balloons to create an amazing dinosaur party backdrop. I started with a balloon garland of blues and greens with pops of yellow. I also added white and red faux leaves for a more organic jungle look.
Then, on one side, I added a couple of cute T-rex balloons. These dinosaurs are too cute to be scary – perfect for young children!
On the other side, I created a balloon column similar to the balloon garland, but with a few small dino balloons added. I topped it off with a giant “1” balloon that I added dino track stickers to. The final touch was a “Happy Birthday” dinosaur garland in the center under the balloon garland.
Dessert Table & Smash Cake
Underneath the garlands, I set up my dessert table. The main element was, of course, the birthday cake. I set it on a bright red cake stand in the center of the table on a monstera leaf placemat. I added dinosaur figurines and leaf decorations to the top and sides of the cake.
To one side of the cake, I set out more treats on monstera leaves – individual chocolate cupcakes, in case that was anyone’s preference over the vanilla flavored cake. I like to keep all my guests happy! On the other side of the cake, I gave a sneak peek of the dino party favors in treat bags filled with red paper shred. A couple more dinosaur figurines roaming around the dessert stands and some themed napkins and paper plates completed the dessert table.
The birthday boy or girl gets their own smash cake, of course. To the side of the dessert table, I set up a highchair with a smaller dinosaur cake to smash.
Table Setting
For guests old enough to sit at a table to eat, I set out monstera leaf placemats with disposable dinosaur shaped plates and napkins. Then I added plastic utensils and small mason jar drink cups with blue lids and straws. Each guest also got an adorable dinosaur planter place card that doubles as a party favor!
In the center of the table, I created interactive centerpieces. I filled large jars with layers of colored sand, and added dino “fossils” and digging tools.
Party Favor Station
I like to display my party favors in fun ways when I can. For this party, I got dinosaur reusable water bottles with keychains attached – so I used a wire grid backdrop I have to hang them in an attractive display. These are great for using during the party as well, to make sure everyone stays hydrated!
I also set up a “Dinosaur Adoption” favor table under a backdrop of leaves and vines. Guests could choose from two baskets of dinos to adopt – a soft and squishy stress-relieving one, or a bright and colorful more realistic-looking one. Or they could choose one of the pre-packaged ones from the treat table. So many options!

Turning one and celebrating your first birthday is a momentous occasion that calls for a grand celebration. And what better theme to choose than dinosaurs? Dinosaurs are a classic kid's party theme that will never go out of style. In this article, I will show you how to give a modern and unique twist to a dinosaur-themed first birthday party.
Entry: To set the prehistoric scene right from the start, I recommend creating a giant RAWR yard sign. This spiky, toothy, clawed, and googly-eyed sign will leave no doubt that this is the location of the party. You can find step-by-step instructions on how to create this sign yourself.
Balloon Backdrop: Once inside the house, create an amazing dinosaur party backdrop using balloons. Start by making a balloon garland using shades of blues and greens with pops of yellow. To add a more organic jungle look, incorporate white and red faux leaves. On one side of the backdrop, place a couple of cute T-rex balloons that are more adorable than scary, making them perfect for young children. On the other side, create a balloon column similar to the garland, but with a few small dino balloons added. Top it off with a giant "1" balloon adorned with dino track stickers. In the center, hang a "Happy Birthday" dinosaur garland under the balloon garland.
Dessert Table & Smash Cake: Set up a captivating dessert table underneath the balloon garlands. The focal point of the table should be the birthday cake, placed on a bright red cake stand. Enhance the cake's appearance by adding dinosaur figurines and leaf decorations to the top and sides. To one side of the cake, display individual chocolate cupcakes on monstera leaves, providing an alternative to the vanilla-flavored cake. On the other side, give guests a glimpse of the dino party favors by placing them in treat bags filled with red paper shreds. Add a few more dinosaur figurines and themed napkins and paper plates to complete the dessert table. Don't forget to set up a highchair with a smaller dinosaur cake for the birthday boy or girl to smash!
Table Setting: For guests old enough to sit at a table, create an engaging table setting. Use monstera leaf placemats and disposable dinosaur-shaped plates and napkins. Provide plastic utensils and small mason jar drink cups with blue lids and straws. Each guest should also receive an adorable dinosaur planter place card that doubles as a party favor. In the center of the table, create interactive centerpieces using large jars filled with layers of colored sand, dino "fossils," and digging tools.
Party Favor Station: Make your party favors a focal point by displaying them in a fun and attractive way. For this dinosaur-themed party, consider using wire grid backdrops to hang dinosaur reusable water bottles with keychains attached. These water bottles not only serve as party favors but also ensure everyone stays hydrated throughout the celebration. Additionally, set up a "Dinosaur Adoption" favor table under a backdrop of leaves and vines. Guests can choose from two baskets of dinos to adopt, including soft and squishy stress-relieving ones or bright and colorful, more realistic-looking ones. Alternatively, they can opt for pre-packaged favors from the treat table. The options are endless!
