byTheChef49 Comments

A very tasty banana bread cooked in the ALDI Lumina Fan Forced Electric Convection Oven which really shows the versatility of this great oven. Check out my other videos for other foods cooked in this convection oven.

NOTE : This oven is NOT Halogen. It has an electric element instead which is fan forced.

  1. can you cook stew right in the glass or do you have to use other glass bowls in it only

    • I must say that I have never attempted to do so. But I feel that it would go against the principle of a fan forced convection oven which is to allow hot air to circulate right around the food or cooking pot/ dish. You would certainly need to stir your food a lot as only the surface would be getting direct heat and if you were looking to cook a large volume I expect it would take a long time. Give it a try if you like & let us know how it goes.

    • +Ditas Veg Thanks for your reply & I hope you like my videos. Yes, I agree that potatoes would be fine but the other comment was asking about cooking a stew which would have a lot of volume & liquid. It could be done but you would have to stir it a lot to ensure even cooking. Thanks again, Steve.

  2. Looks really yummy.. Can we substitute honey or maple syrup for sugar?

    • Hi, yes you could substitute these for sugar. But please keep in mind that they are very sweet so you would use a lesser amount.

  3. This looks very good and I’m going to try for sure ! Buy I wanted to warn You that the directions to the oven says to NEVER put in put aluminum foil on top because of risk of overheating or fire ! It also says not to use paper of ant kind in oven ,but I think the way You used it is fine as long as there is no extra paper sticking up . Thank You for the recipe ! Jerry P. Fort Mill S.C. USA

    • Hi Jerry it is perfectly fine to use foil & baking paper. The important point that you MUST observe when using a Convection Oven is to ensure that it cannot be sucked up to the element. If it is securely anchored by what you are cooking it is totally fine. I can understand why instructions may say not to use it which is to stop users just putting a loose piece of foil or baking paper on top of what they are cooking. Viewers may like to check out my newly uploaded Roast Turkey with Stuffing video. In this clip the turkey is wrapped in foil from the very start of the cooking process for 2 whole hours then without foil for the final 30 minutes. If it had not been wrapped in foil it would have dried out too much as a result of over browning. The end result was just perfect & the turkey was very moist as you will see in the clip. This clip will disprove the myth that you should not use foil in a convection oven. Here is the link to the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2SGy8ub6nw. Hope you enjoy it.

    • Thanks for your comment, have you had a chance to try it yet?

    • We had our oven installed a few weeks ago, so only just started getting my baking apron back on :). I’ll have to give your recipe a try as it does look delicious, thank you ;).

    • Sooz3112 thanks for your reply & I hope you enjoy the banana bread.

  5. Looks good :)

    • Thank you for your comment.

  6. Hi. Can I use a metal pan to bake in a convection oven? Thanks.

    • alalbavincerovincero Yes you can, there is nothing mysterious about them, use whatever you would use in a normal oven.

    • Ozbullwinkle Thank you very much.

  7. Another great video, thanks. It’s good to know I can use the foil and fork on top.

    • Thanks for your comment Maryanne, I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

    • Thank you :)

  8. Hi, generally, by how much should I adjust my temperature when baking with a turbo broiler? I’d like to try other recipes with my turbo broiler but of course, most recipes use normal ovens. Hope you can help. Thanks!

    • Micah Bernadette Manalo Hi Micah, there is nothing mysterious about convection ovens so just use the same temperature that you would use in a normal oven. Mine has an electric element with a fan so it is just a mini fan forced oven. Hope you also enjoy some of the other clips on my channel as well, check out my mashed potato one, you will never need to boil potatoes & lose nutrients ever again. All the best, Steve

  9. Thank you so much and I wanted do bread like this in it. I will have to see if I can find more things I’d like to cook. A

    • Kitty Richardson thanks for your comment & I’m glad you enjoyed my video. Hope you also enjoy the other clips on my channel, take a look at my mashed potato method too, its a great timesaver ,& more nutritious as well.

    • Hi it is me again. Can I use the box mixes that we have in States. Not really a from scratch cook. Also do I have to use a glass loaf pan or can I use metal? We have great box mixes and the family loves them. Thank you for your comments so fast. Kitty

    • Kitty Richardson yes to both of your questions, just treat it like you would a normal oven. I just used a glass dish for this clip as I use Teflon coated metal ones in mine as well. Regards Steve

  10. I will be trying the bead very soon. It is so nice of you to answer my questions so fast.

    • Kitty Richardson , Hi Kitty, how did your bread turn out, I hope it was great. With Christmas fast approaching check out my Roast Turkey video on my channel, I was extremely pleased with the result I got from my Convection Oven. Merry Christmas .

  11. wait.. I can bake my chocolate cake in that??? That’s good news for me 😊 thank you!!!!

    • Yes you can. My daughter tried and it came out so nice and sweet. All the best

  12. Not good for sponge cake but banana cake , yes.

  13. Wow this is nice. Can i make also lemon bar in turbo? The recipe calls for 350degrees/180C for 20mins. Is it the same time if Turbo or do i need to adjust?

    • Yes, you cook just like a normal oven but you will lose some heat of course after pre heating & opening the lid so you may need to cook just a bit longer. Test with a very fine metal skewer, if the skewer comes out dry it is cooked through. Thanks for watching, I hope you also enjoy some of my other videos as well.

    • Ozbullwinkle So no need to adjust the temp from the original recipe? Yes for sure. More power! ;)

    • Kar no, the temp should be fine just test with the metal skewer.

    • Ozbullwinkle okay thanks so much!!

  14. Ozbulwinkle Do you still use your halogen oven? Have you tried the newer airfryers?

    • Yes, I use it all the time. It has been a fantastic appliance & in fact I never use my wall oven at all anymore. I have never tried one of the air fryers as I am really happy with my Convection Oven & love its versatility & size, see my other video about cooking a turkey in it. BTW my one has a fan forced electric element & is not one of the halogen ones with are a totally different heat source.

    • @Ozbullwinkle thanks for reply. Glad you are still getting good use from this type of oven. I will now look at your other videos. Bit late to the party but have now subscribed.

  15. Good tip about the parchment paper. I’ll do my jiffy cornbread that way

    • Thank you & glad you enjoyed my video. I recommend looking at my mashed potato method video..it’s a huge time saver.

  16. What size was the bowl that you used? I want to buy a bread tin for a friend using a convection oven for his bakes for Christmas.

    • Hi Steph, My glass loaf dish is L 26.5 cm (incl handles) x W 13 cm x H 7 cm. Hope this helps you. Sorry for delay in replying & Merry Christmas….Steve

  17. I have the same type of mini oven, just different brand. It’s been going strong for over 15 years. Mine has an extender ring – and I often use that when baking instead of fiddling with aluminiun foil to stop over-browning. Just my $0.2c worth

    • I bought an Extender Ring for mine too check out my other video where I cook the Turkey Buff = mainly breast & no legs.

  18. Mine turned out like a concrete slab but paradoxically it tasted OK before I paved the driveway with it I strongly suspect it will survive the pyramids

  19. Not halogen? I had no idea that is an option. I thought all of these were halogen. Are there any negative affects from the halogen ones?

    • I have no experience with the Halogen ones but my fully electric one is still going strong after hundreds of uses.
